Race-Class

Both economic and racial justice are core progressive priorities, but progressives tend to discuss them as if they were separate. The reality is racial and economic harms are deeply intertwined. Wealthy special interests turn working people against each other by exploiting racial fears, so they can rig the economic rules to benefit themselves. Our research demonstrated the power in a Race-Class Narrative that can combat the dog-whistle strategic racism endemic in today’s politics. By doing so, we can build a truly multi-racial progressive coalition that can win a better future for people of all races. Calling out the wealthy special interests who divide us based on what we look like, discussing race explicitly, and making a cross-racial call to action engages our allies, persuades the middle, and builds support for progressive policy.
