Equality and Human Rights

LRP brings both passionate commitment and deep experience to the cause of equality and human rights. Over the last two decades, we have been part of groundbreaking research with a broad scope of work. Our commitment to equality is strong because we believe our work only gets better with more people and more years of diverse experience at the table. We were the first polling firm to work toward successfully defeating a constitutional ban on marriage equality in Arizona in 2006. Since then, we have worked in Montana on research about marriage equality and protections from discrimination, in Massachusetts to keep a marriage ban off the ballot, in Michigan to guide them in framing and prioritizing their 2009 state legislative goals. We worked on a groundbreaking study on LGBT adults with diverse ethnic backgrounds, studying how they see themselves as part of the community as well as how Anglos view them.

In addition to a long history of research on LGBT rights and equality, in 2017 in Virginia we helped elect the first openly transgender woman, Danica Roem, to a U.S. state legislature in the country (we also helped elect the first openly lesbian, Dawn Adams, to the Virginia House of Delegates). We also advised Jennifer Roberts, former Mayor of Charlotte, when she was leading the opposition against HB-2 in North Carolina. We were involved in researching and assessing the issue in North Carolina, especially Charlotte. Additionally, we polled for candidates in Houston during the 2015 Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) campaign.
