Partner David Mermin heads the firm’s Bay Area office. He advises incumbents and challengers at all levels of the electoral process, as well as a wide range of non-partisan advocacy organizations, foundations, and labor unions. David and his team at LRP conduct innovative quantitative and qualitative opinion research on a wide range of topics including labor issues, health care, immigration, civil rights, democratic reform, and retirement security. He has served as pollster and strategist for candidates including Senator Mark Begich of Alaska, former Governor Janet Napolitano of Arizona, and Congressmen Mike Honda, Jerry McNerney, and Raul Ruiz of California, Kurt Schrader of Oregon, Hank Johnson of Georgia, and for numerous state and local ballot initiative campaigns. His issue clients at LRP have included the AFL-CIO, Health Care for America Now, America’s Voice, the Brennan Center for Justice, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, Herndon Alliance, Public Campaign Action Fund, SEIU, UFCW, and the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems.
David joined LRP in 1996. Previously he did public issues research and consulting at the Harwood Group, and worked for the Health Care Financing Administration. He has presented research findings to audiences across the country and has published articles in The American Prospect, Health Affairs, Aspenia, and The Polling Report. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, he holds an M.A. in Geography with a concentration in political geography from the University of Minnesota, and a B.A. in Political Science from Brown University. David lives in Berkeley, California with his wife and two daughters and enjoys travel, good food, and coaching youth soccer.
